Carnon-Plage : the seaside meeting point of the people of Montpellier

Carnon is a small resort in the Hérault belonging to the town of Mauguio and popular with tourists all year round! Its ideal location on the Mediterranean gives it a special status and you must visit Montpellier, Le Grau-du-Roi and Palavas-les-Flots; you cannot resist visiting it to discover its charm: the long untamed beach of Petit-Travers. Its proximity to Montpellier (13 km - about 15 minutes’ drive) gives it the status of the resort of Montpellier.

Mauguio-Carnon is a family resort punctuated by many events and village festivals that make its authenticity. The centre has a very nice market, the opportunity to discover the specialties of the region, the Macaronade, the Braciola and even small patés of Pezenas, a pastry made of mutton, spices and sugar! At the heart of the village, the Garden of La Motte offers a beautiful view of the Mediterranean flora and more exotic fragrances such as Japan quince and Judas trees. All around the town, fields, ponds and beaches… the list is endless.

The beaches of Petit and Grand Travers stretch for over 7 km to the delight of holiday makers! Sports enthusiasts will try rowing, tennis, cycling and sailing. Kitesurfing and windsurfing are also available on this well-equipped beach. The marina is full of charm and you can visit it with pleasure. It provides access to the Canal du Rhone, ideal for pleasant cruises. Nearby, the Morastel Art Gallery hosts beautiful exhibitions.

The port of Palavas les Flots

Enjoy your stay with a visit to the nearby cities of La Grande-Motte overlooking the lake of Or, Le Grau-du-Roi on the Lake Médard, Aigues-Mortes and Palavas-les-Flots. This city is famous for its port which is at the heart of the city! Do not miss the chance to taste the ”rouille Palavasienne” in one of the promenade’s restaurants before heading to the city’s beaches or the nearby marshes for peace and quiet. Maguelone village on a volcanic island nearby, is an ideal destination. Its Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul's Cathedral is superb!

The village of St Guilhem le Désert

If you have time, go to Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert (an hour away). It is one of the prettiest villages in the region. Part of the Unesco Heritage, this medieval city was a staging point on the Way of Saint Jacques de Compostela. Romanic houses huddled against each other and the view from the ruins of the Chateau du Géant are unforgettable. Hikers will be delighted; the village is the starting point of many walks (Notre-Dame-de-L-Hermitage for example). The abbey hosts an annual festival of “baroque” music!

Also discover the Canal du Midi, perfect for walking, cycling or horse, the Espiguette Beach of Port Camargue where the Camargue starts, Sète ... Lake Salagou, buried in red soil in which you can swim is beautiful like the Navacelle circus on the foothills of the Cevennes.
